Participants will learn the basic elements of how to use a white cane and how to serve as a sighted guide to someone who is blind or visually impaired, you will have the opportunity to experience the challenges that people who are blind or visually impaired encounter every day. Children accompanied by an adult can follow a trail for a short walk through the “Friendly Forest” participating in activities and meeting a “spider” and “bat” along the way to the pumpkin patch where they will be allowed to choose a pumpkin and take it back to the building to decorate. Additionally, in the main display area of the nature building visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy refreshments and to learn about misunderstood animals, such as snakes, spiders, bats and wolves. Live animals, on loan from Preuss Pets will be available for viewing. Children can also take a hayride with a naturalist through the park, during which they can play a trivia game. In addition, there will be a campfire going for roasting marshmallows. Children can participate in all of these activities for just $5.
Visitors who are just interested in the “misunderstood animals” area are encouraged to attend and enjoy refreshments as well. No registration is necessary for this event and it will continue regardless of the weather.
